With its chic storefronts and swish street cafes, Laval has a decidedly voguish spirit, but labelled Ville d'Art et d'Histoire, the town of Laval is also one rich in history, the setting of many a brave battle, creating an epic heritage marked by the Hundred Years War (1337 - 1453), the Great War (1914 - 1918), and the Second World War (1936-1945).

A tour of the vibrant town is incomplete without a stop at the medieval Chateau de Laval; the ruins of the town walls and gate, which came together around the foundation of the castle and date back to 1020; the Cathedral of the Trinity, an arresting Pre-Romanesque creation, and the Jardin botanique de la Perrine, a botanical garden and park.
